A taste of Africa in Milwaukee? Owned by a Nigerian couple, this restaurant is Milwaukee's best taste of Africa and really feels like a hut, complete with thatched roof, wild animal photographs and leopard skin wallpaper. Most folks seem to start with the akara, a black-eyed pea fritter that is just wonderful. Follow with Hut's Um'Bido Stew, made with peanuts and spinach; Peanut Stew Banfi, groundnuts with African herbs and chicken; and Egusi Stew, a Nigerian dish made from melon seed, spinach and turkey. They'll give samples for the indecisive diner. For dessert, you must try the sweet potato pie – it's excellent. African wine and beer available. Smart casual attire. |
