Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Milwaukee County Historical Center building started life as a bank in 1913. Today, the grand structure houses Historical Society offices, archives, a library and a fascinating museum. A huge permanent collection of artifacts from Milwaukee's past includes early fire-fighting equipment, military artifacts, toys, women's fashions, photographs, panorama paintings and more. Special exhibits change frequently, and usually focus on one aspect of the region's history such as the WWII era, textiles, industry or home life at the turn of the century. |
